As most of you know, we love all the seasons here in Michigan but Summer is our absolute favorite! We get to spend most of our weekends out on our boat traveling to many great places in Michigan. We do travel to other places, like the North Channel in Canada, but this year we will be keeping the boat in Michigan for the most part. We are very excited to share our love of boating with Brody and know he will love a life on the water, on the beaches and enjoying the warm weather outdoors.
This is our boat, it is a 27′ Doral. We bought it in 2006 and has plenty of room for us. Downstairs has a kitchen, bathroom (w/shower), a queen bed in the aft cabin, a single bed in the vberth and the eating nook that turns into a child’s bed by just taking out the table and adding in the center cushion. Perfect for Brody. The outside seating also has an added table and cushion that turns it into another double bed. We have two refrigerators (one up and one down), a stove and a microwave. So it really is our home away from home. And of course friends and family are always welcome!
This summer we have a lot of fun trips planned on the boat. We will be up at Leelanau for a week, Traverse City for Cherry Festival, Mackinac Island, Grand Haven and more.
North Carolina Vacation
Coming up in September, we got invited by our good friends Steve and Kelli Kilmon and their wonderful family to Corolla, North Carolina. We will be staying a week with them in a beautiful beach house that is oceanfront and has its own inground pool. It has six bedrooms and 5.5 baths. There will be ten adults and Brody will be among five playful babies and toddlers. We are very excited, bring on the pack-and-plays! Thanks to Mr. & Mrs. Hensley, Steve, Kelli, Kyel, Brie, Jennifer, Sean, Cameron, Ava, the newest addition Acelynn (Congratulations Brie & Kyle!) and the soon-to-be arrival, Carter for letting us tag along!
Here are a couple of pics of the fancy digs:
Plenty of stuff to do right around the corner
Other exciting places our family will be frequenting this spring and summer are Lansing’s Potter Park Zoo and Hawk Island County Park. Both are right down the street from us – season passes all the way!

I took Brody once last year with my friend Amy and her daughter Brooke. Brody was just weeks old so he pretty much just slept the whole time. This year Potter Park Zoo is expanding! New animals, massive landscaping projects and expanded exhibits are all part of big plans at the Potter Park Zoo.
There will be a new tiger, new wolf, more Bighorn Sheep and ostriches, another lemur and about 450 Australian birds. They are just weeks away from opening up an interactive giant aviary where five, six, seven birds come down and perch on your children’s arms. So exciting!
We will be getting the family pass and with the extended hours in place will be able to visit on week days or week ends, but one thing is for sure. We will be at the zoo plenty this year! And if you come for a visit, we will bring you along…and the locals, please join us too!
Hawk Island County Park
Rebuilt in 2006, this is a great place for family with plenty of things to do. We are very lucky to have this place be minutes away from our house. It has nature walks, a beach, huge playground, dog park, horseshoe pits, volleyball courts, fishing docks, paddle boat rentals, and our soon to be favorite………the Splash Pad – Ingham County’s newest water attraction!

Tim is very excited to start introducing Brody to water and know that they will probably end up here more than I will since Tim mentioned that they will be here on the days he watches Brody when I am at work. Don’t worry, I will just bring picnic lunches over during my lunch hour since it is very close to my work too!
I can’t wait for the fun! Brody is very excited about it too…especially for his birthday celebration to be right smack dab in the middle of it!
Thanks for letting us share.
